oncidium “tiny twinkle”

oncidium “tiny twinkle” is a cultivar based on onc. cheirophorum x onc. ornithorhynchum. there are some varieties available, blooming in white (‘white fantasy’), yellow (‘fragrance fantasy’) or pink (‘red fantasy’).

oncidium “tiny twinkle” is suitable for bright to light shaded places but must be protected from afternoon sun. some morning and/or evening sun will be tolerated. during summer it can be placed in the garden.

this orchid can be cultivated at room temperature throughout the year with a winter minium of 14 °c/57 °f.

oncidium “tiny twinkle” needs a special orchid mix (with fir bark and peat moss) and can’t be grown in a regular potting soil. it should be repotted every 2-3 years, when it begins to outgrow the pot and the soil is going to break down.

it can be deep watered, what’s running out of the pot’s hole must be removed after a few minutes. wet legs can cause root rot. before adding water next let it become moderately dry. if the pseudobulbs begin to shrink can indicate that the orchid was kept too dry.

if oncidium “tiny twinkle” is actively growing or flowering a half diluted orchid fertilizer can be given monthly.

spraying it over with water can increase humidity. this should be done in the morning, so the water has time to evaporate throughout the day. it also gives the orchid some extra water so it can tolerate if the soil gets a bit drier.

reblooming oncidium “tiny twinkle”

the bloom spike can be cutted after it has dried. the old growth will not flower again. after blooming oncidium “tiny twinkle” is showing new shoots. eight to twelfe months later they will build the pseudo-bulbs. now the orchid is ready for blooming again.

for producing its inflorescense a few weeks at approx. 14/57 to 16 °c/60 °f can have an positive impact. now it has to be kept a bit drier and must not be feeded until it’s showing the flower spike.
